4H Information:


            Sharp Shooters is a Boulder County 4H shooting club for youth ages 8-18 that meets and practices at the Berthoud Gun Club.  Meetings are on the first Monday of the month at 6:30pm in the Clubhouse.  Shooting disciplines include Shotgun, 22LR, Air Pistol, Air Rifle, Archery and Muzzle loading.  Boulder County Fair Shooting events are annually held in July at the Berthoud Gun Club.

Enrollment

            Enrollment for the new 4H year (2014-2015) starts Oct. 10th.  Go to http://www.boulder4h.org/ You will see on the right hand side, a large logo 4H Online and below it the words Enroll here. Click on the Enroll here to start enrollment and bring the paper work to the November meeting. Club registration closed Jan 15, 2015.


May 2014 – Nebraska State High School Shoot


            Ten area 4H Senior High School and Junior High School shooters from Colorado competed in the 2014 Nebraska State HS shoot in Doniphan, Nebr.


            Junior High Team:


                        The Junior High team competed with 52 other 4H teams from Nebraska and finished 2nd overall with a total team score of 433. First place had a total team score of 438, with 3rd place scoring a total of 429.


Team members included Jonah Heil (95), Jared Wacker (89), Jack Olsen (71), AJ Nomina (92) and Zane Mitchell (86).  Scores were from a total of 100 targets each. As individuals the team did very well also. Competing against 888 other shooters, Jonah Heil was 3rd overall with his 95. AJ Nomina was 14th overall after a shoot off with a score of 92.


            Senior High Team:


                        The Senior High Team competed with 60 other 4H teams from Nebraska. Shooting 75 targets each from the 16yd line and 75 targets each from their Handi-Cap yardage, the team finished 1st overall from the 16yd line with a total team score of 361. Second place had a 351 and 3rd place a 349.  The team was 7th overall from the handi-cap yardage with a total team score of 329. First place had a 342, 2nd place a 338 and 3rd place a 332.  The team then finished 2nd in the combined high overall championship with a total team score of 690 targets. First place had a total of 691 targets and 3rd place a total of 682. Team members individual scores were as follows: Greg Ferguson 74-68 (142), Austin Massey 69-65 (134), Zach Barker 74-67 (141), Brett Campbell 73-65 (138) and Jess Nighswonder 71-64 (135). Handi-cap yardage was determined by dividing the 16yd score by 3, Zach & Greg shot from the 25yd line, Brett from the 24yd line, Jess & Austin from the 23yd line. Senior High Team individuals did very well also. Competing against 1365 other shooters, Zach Barker was 12th overall after a shoot off with a score of 74. Greg Ferguson was 20th overall after a shoot off with a score of 74.


 Congratulations shooters for a very successful and fun trip to Nebraska. 2,253 Individual shooters competed in the 2014 Cornhusker State shoot.


 


4H State Fair


            Labor Day weekend 2014 was the State Fair Shooting events for 4H at the Pikes Peak Gun Club in Colorado Springs, CO.  Shooting disciplines included Shotgun – Skeet, Sporting clays and Trap.


Boulder County shooters were represented by Senior Team Members (ages 14-18): AJ Nomina, Brett Campbell, Jack Olsen, Justin Weber, Michael Nannen, Grant Jacobs, Ryan Cawthra and Craig Hamilton.


Junior Team members (ages 8-14): Johan Heil, Camdyn Hopp, Tristen Workman, Luke Guynn, Ryan Pilon and Kace Thoren.


Junior Team


            Trap Team Members Johan Heil (49), Camdyn Hopp (47), Tristen Workman (45), Luke Guynn (36), Kace Thoren (33), finished 4th with a total team score of 210.  State Grand Champion Douglas County had a total team score of 225. Reserve Grand Champion Mesa County had a total team score of 215. 3rd Place Adams County had a total team score of 213.  Individual honors in trap included State Grand Champion Jonah Heil with a score of 49 and in 5th place, Camdyn Hopp with a score of 47 in a 6 way shoot off.


            Skeet Team Members Jonah Heil (44), Camdyn Hopp (39), Tristen Workman (34), Luke Guynn (30) and Ryan Pilon (30), were State Reserve Grand Champions with a total team score of 177. State Grand Champion Douglas  County had a total team score of 213.  3rd place Moffat County had a total team score of 166.  Individual honors in Skeet included Jonah Heil in 4th place with a score of 44 in a 2 way shoot off and in 9th place Camdyn Hopp with a score of 39.


            Sporting Clay Team members (same as Skeet) Jonah (48), Tristen (43), Camdyn (42), Ryan (40) and Luke (35) were State Grand Champions with a total team score of 208.  State Reserve Grand Champions Mesa County had a total team score of 190.  3rd place Douglas County had a total team score of 186.  Individual honors in Sporting Clays included State Reserve Grand Champion Jonah Heil in a 2 way shoot off with a score of 48, in 7th place Tristen Workman with a score of 43 and in 10th place, Camdyn Hopp in a 5 way shoot off with a score of 42.


 


Senior Team


            Trap Team Members, Grant Jacobs (49), Brett Campbell (48), Jack Olsen (48), Craig Hamilton (48), Michael Nannen (43) and Team alternate AJ Nomina (47) were State Grand Champions with a team score of 236.  State Reserve Grand Champions Mesa County had a team score of 232.  In 3rd place was Chaffee County with a team score of 231.  Individual honors in Trap included, Grant Jacobs in 6th place with a score of 49 in a 5 way shoot off, Brett Campbell in 10th place with a score of 48 in a 11 way shoot off, Craig Hamilton in 11th place with a score of 48 in the same 11 way shoot off, Jack Olsen in 16th place with a score of 48 in the same 11 way shoot off.


            Skeet Team Members, Brett Campbell (46), Craig Hamilton (44), AJ Nomina (44), Justin Weber (41), Michael Nannen (38) and team alternate Ryan Cawthra (40) were State Reserve Grand Champions with a team score of 213.  State Grand Champions Mesa County had a team score of 218 with 3rd place Weld County with a team score of 211.  Individual honors in Skeet included Brett Campbell in 7th place with a score of 46 in a 3 way shoot off.


            Sporting Clays Team Members, Ryan Cawthra (46), AJ Nomina (44), Justin Weber (41), Jack Olsen (38), Brett Campbell (36) and team alternate Craig Hamilton (41) finished in 3rd place with a team score of 205.  State Grand Champions Weld County had a team score of 212 and won in a shoot off over State Reserve Grand Champion Routt County with a team score of 212.  Individual honors included Ryan Cawthra in 5th place with a score of 46 and AJ Nomina in 7th place with a score of 44 in a 6 way shoot off.


 Other Highlights:  The Senior Team Members were honored with the High Combined High over all Championship with a combined total score of 654, beating out 2nd place Weld County with a total score of 640 and 3rd place Mesa County with a total score of 637.


 Also, Boulder Counties first year 4H shooter AJ Nomina and three other Colorado Shooters will represent Colorado at the 4H Nationals Shotgun Competition in Grand Island, Nebraska in June of 2015.

October Meeting:


            October’s meeting was a celebration for the accomplishments of the 4H Shooters at the Colorado State Fair. A fun shoot of trap, a hicky line and bush whackers was enjoyed by all. While a potluck dinner that served 40-50 people in attendance was enjoyed, the meeting was called to order. The 4H pledge was recited, minutes & treasures report were read.  Current 4H Club Adult Leader Michael Moschetti  welcomed in the new Adult Leader Bart Campbell.  Michael has been a fantastic Leader and done so much over the last 2 years for these kids. Good Luck Michael we’ll miss you. Then the Highlight of the night was the announcement of the State Fair Awards for the Senior and Junior Teams (as listed above).  


 We look forward to several new members joining soon.
